Thu, 16 July 2009 Good umps, bad umps - what do you do when your ump makes a bad call, or doesn't know the rules? The book is Managing and Coaching Adult Slowpitch Softball. Comments[4] |
Your right on target! I'm an umpire and I know some of the umpires I work with are hotheads and may abuse the power. I ump because I love the game that I can't play anymore due to injuries. Don't get me wrong, I like the money, but that's not my reason for my work. We had our state tournament this weekend and before the flip I told both coaches that I would only talk to them. I told them to tell the players to stay in the dugout and we would work together and get the call right. Out of 20 games I had to toss 1 player. You are right. If a coach calls time and comes out to talk professionally, I respect them and their team more.
Bring presents to their kids? Flowers to their wives? You can't be serious. Being nice is one thing but if you did all that around here everyone would think you were cheating with the umps wife LOL. Love the show - especially the pitching podcasts. Some simple stills or short video of various grips, throws, styles, and techniques would compliment those casts well.
What? You think presents for their kids and flowers for their wives is too much?
Guess you wouldn't go for paying their cable bill and putting them on your health care family plan, either.
You're right - I wasn't serious. Just a bit of make-you-smile exaggeration. Hope you smiled!
